Home Care
Who is eligible to receive Medicare services?
- The patient generally needs to be home bound. This means his/her condition does not permit leaving the home without assistance of another person or supportive equipment.
- The patient's condition must require a skilled level of nursing, physical, occupational, or speech therapy on an intermittent basis.
- A physician must authorize the services.
Who Pays
- If a patient is homebound and in need of skilled intermittent care, Medicare, Medicaid or other programs such as PASSPORT, and Medicaid waivers normally cover home care services.
- Private insurance frequently covers home care. This can be explored on a individual basis by home care staff.
- Homemaking, meal preparations, companion services may be covered under PASSPORT or Waiver programs.
